Local media outlet Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) quoted an injured passenger as saying that the escalator was going twice as fast. No. It reversed direction going MANY times faster, maybe five times as fast!

Since it was the UP escalator, the drive appears to have broken and gravity caused it to reverse. As the weight came off it slowed then stopped moving.

Aiiiiiiii. I was scared of escalators as a child, then an attorney I know has made a lot of money fighting for victims of escalators so I know all the horror stories. I think my fear is coming back. Where are the stairs??
