Patrice Bedford had never questioned raising her baby in Chicago.
But on a springtime stroll during the first trimester of her pregnancy last year, a heightened sense of smell — piqued by pungent neighborhood odors — made her view the city differently.
The city's expensive, she said. Public schools face an unfolding financial crisis and the violence is "terrifying and frightening" to a parent-to-be. It didn't take long for Bedford, 28, to realize it was time to pack up and leave her Roscoe Village home.
She, her husband and their son, now 6 weeks old, are preparing to move to Denver this summer.
"We've been to Colorado before and visited so many times, and just remembered how astonishingly clean and how fresh the air was and easy to breathe," said Bedford, who has lived in Chicago for five years. "I felt like I couldn't breathe anymore in the city." (snip)

Over the past year, the Tribune surveyed dozens of former residents who've packed up in recent years and they cited a variety of reasons: high taxes, the state budget stalemate, crime, the unemployment rate and weather. Census data released Thursday suggests the root of the problem is in the city of Chicago and Cook County: The county in 2016 had the largest loss of any county nationwide, losing 21,324 residents.

It was a shithole-on-the-make back in the early 70s when I was in the National Guard on the south side.
It really has gone down hill since.

Not sure you know what’s going on in Detroit. The city is entering a growth period fueled by the investments in Midtown in particular. Dan Gilbert (Quicken Loans, Cavaliers) and the Ilitch family (Little Caesars, Tigers, Red Wings) have been the catalyst for much of this. Rents are on the rise, a good sign. Don’t get me wrong, Detroit has a long way to go, but it’s not the same as it was 10 years ago.
I posit that as long as the demographics are the same and the corrupt leftist power structure remains, there can be no renaissance.
All the money infusion in the world won’t prevent a ghetto person from murdering your family member.
One thing for sure, the Detroit Bankruptcy while not perfect was manageable with the only sticky wicket still being the teachers pension, which will be a maintenance issue to make sure it doesn't go bad quickly.
Chicago Pensions? It is in their constitution, they can't change them, you can't pull back on the stick to get out of the dive, it is on the impact that will get them, but the sudden stop aka no cash left as the eat through their seed corn.
Other things to consider:
* Canada is our what 1st or 2nd largets trading partner?
* Business couldn't wait for Detroit to clean up it's act financially.
* It is here on more so on the road to that.
* Bad or good a new Bridge and a renegotiated NAFTA deal can't but help business on both sides of the river, and possibly even manufacturing springing up in Detroit because of it.
* So many other ditties like LNG Powered Large vessels on the Great Lakes to be fueled on the Canadian side in Sarnia......
Tell me a bright spot in Chicago that even matches any of the above....

They’ll change their address, but I doubt they will change their political persuasion. Denver will have more liberal voters moving in. The urban mindset is frightening.
Yes...I have been seeing the mental state of NY advertising here in the south for companies to move there with tax breaks, etc. My point is similar...maybe the low info crowd will fall for it, but I saw first-hand the long term effects of communism. It ain’t pretty and that’s exactly what is happening in “blue” states and cities.

When I first saw it referred to 2016, I was sceptical as 2016 just ended, but it is based on the US Census info which released the July 2016 estimate broken down to cities and metro regions.
With so much practice, the gangbangers aim had to improve somewhat. More ventilations are turning into deletions.
It more has to do with expense than murder rate, no one in neighborhoods outside of the far West and South sides are not worried about what happens in the West and South sides.
Illinois in general is bleeding population due to high taxes and continuing rise in the cost of living.
The "former residents" who no longer live in Chicago for the sixth-highest reason, "shot dead", were unavailable for comment.
Maybe they can import a million #Moslems to solve their problems. Oh, wait.....
