Ric Ocasek took supermodel Paulina Porizkova off the market, now they have kids...

“Let the Good Times Roll!” a guitar riff driven dirge, is another Cars favorite for me.
The lead singer Rick Ocasek had a perfect voice and manner for that brand of pop music, but he was rather homely. Still, he ends up marrying some beautiful European model. I think they’re still together even today. The real Beauty & The Beast.
I’m thankful for his songs, knowing today he is in poor health.

I was just listening the other night to the Cars...I love the transition from “Shoo Be Doo” to “Candy-O”!

(I was putting together a playlist of my favorite Eighties songs...:)

That whole first Cars album is great. Not a weak song on it.

The late Ben Orr was the perfect complement to Ocasek in terms of voice.

Heh heh, anyone who watched “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” never heard “Moving in Stereo” the same afterwards.

She had a swimsuit calendar in 1989.

I put it up at work.

No one complained.

I think it was Ben singing “Shake It Up”.
I don’t know who did ‘Who’s Gonna Drive You Home Tonight?’
but it was beautiful, and a complete departure from their usual work.
Sort of like “She’s a Rainbow” by the Stones.
That song starts off with a Harpsicord like piece played on piano.

Ben generally sang the ballads like “Drive”.

"Ben generally sang the ballads like “Drive”.

Actually Ben sang most of their songs -- and wrote most of them, too. He was a huge loss, much more than people think.

I thought the video for “You Might Think” was one of the all-time best. Great song, too.

The transitions in and out of “Bye Bye Love” on the first album are epic. It starts with a sudden shock from “You’re All I’ve Got Tonight” and ends with the slow fade into “Moving in Stereo.”

“Bye Bye Love” is easily my favorite Cars song.
