Global brands including Volkswagen, Toyota and Tesco last night joined the more than 250 companies that have suspended advertising deals with Google as the internet giant apologised for failing to crack down on extremism.

ITV, Aviva and Heinz also pulled advertising from YouTube, Google’s video platform, after an investigation by The Times found the companies promoted on videos posted by hate preachers, rape apologists and homophobic extremists banned from entering Britain.

A growing number of brands have blocked Google or YouTube advertising since the revelations last week. They include Marks & Spencer, Lloyds Bank, O2, L’Oréal, RBS, the BBC, Channel 4 and McDonald’s, as well as the British government. Google does not disclose YouTube revenues, but the accounts are thought to be worth more than

FTA: "...hate preachers, rape apologists and homophobic extremists..."
Whether they know it or not, they described islamists, didn't they?

Of that I have no doubt. Other countries do not believe in freedom of speech. It is no accident that they want Americans censored.

BiPolar - that’s exactly what I think! The EU will demand it censorship, the US companies will do it for their business, and WE will lose our First Amendment RIGHTS. Must develop conservative ‘Talk Radio’ FB/ Google and so forth.

Hmm.. wonder who would determine hat will be considered extreme speech? As if Google is not already hard left. This will lead to censorship of anything not full out left.

Are you kidding? Liberals do NOT see any difference between Islamists and Christians.

They are saying that Google isn’t COMMIE enough for them??? Hard to believe man.

Wow, these companies need to be boycotted, because what they want would shut down Freerepublic. We’d literally be in prison if they have their way.

The advertisers.
Google works for them. It gets all it’s money from them.
Same with FB.

Corporate censorship.

It's not censorship, it's a capitalist free market decision made due to the fiduciary responsibility Google bosses have to their shareholders.

It’s probably planned and coordinated to create the “need” for censorship.

it's a capitalist free market decision

It's the first step towards censorship. Instead of an open and free internet we will have sites like FR shutdown because these large companies with shareholders say it is in the nations best interests.

So these “global brands” do not really believe in Free Speech.

What is really going on? The globalists are now being threatened directly, so watch the definition of “hate speech” get expanded to all “populist” groups. THEIR agenda is threatened and they want to threaten Google’s parent company into either showing it is with them or see more anti-Google legal efforts start coming from the globalists’ political friends.

They don't have to say a thing about the nation's interest, they can fall back on saying they're concerned about how not censoring impacts their revenue and that's it.

If you want to call that censorship, then a whole lot of other things that are done in the name of protecting shareholder value are going to be reclassified as something other than a business decision as well.

That's the beauty of the leftist scum companies in the fascist Hillary camp pulling their ads rather than Google and others lifting a finger before their revenues fall.

People won't differentiate between Google censorship and a company that removes in store posters of queer weddings after their sales drop when people start talking about that ad campaign. It's the capitalist reaction argument used against the people who always make that argument when they fight the fascist scum shoving social trash down their throats.

Think about it, companies like Target and Starbucks may be willing to eat losses and ignore the public reaction to their social agenda BS but do you think Greedy Google will eat the losses? No way, the twit in charge has too many big plans to give up a penny.

If he'll only go along after revenues drop, fine, the big money crowd will both make his revenues drop and in doing so provide him cover for going along with censorship that he most likely only avoids because it might cost money to initiate it without some kind of cover.
