European agriculture is already more automated than in the US, especially for those areas (like fruit/vegetable harvesting) where we use a lot of immigrant labor.

The next major generation of technology (robotics) will especially take a bite out of those kinds of tasks. Machines can be equipped with longer arms, more sensitive “hands”, and specialized sensors for better recognizing ripeness and disease. The decade of the 2020’s should see a significant drop in farm labor requirements.
