Something close though did happen. On May 22 1856, SC Rep Preston Brooks beat Mass Sen. Charles Sumner unconscious on the floor of the congress with a cane.

Too bad we haven't perfected time travel, I can think of several current senators I'd like Sen Brooks to meet.

Would have a hard time supporting the reason Brooks beat Sumner over. Though there are some of our Congress criters I think would benefit from a good caning.
