Why does Holland care about Turkey? Do they have many trade relations in common, as in crude oil or certain foods?

Good question, hard to give a succinct reply -

Holland and Turkey do have a close relationship, but not in economic terms.

In the ‘60s to ‘80s (roughly), many people from Turkey came to Holland. We had good growth, and no unemployment to speak of. These folks were called: ‘guest labourers’.

Mind: they were known for their modesty, their very good work ethic, and they weren’t politically active.

Their children were raise as Dutchmen, and were in effect Dutch with a Dutch passport (actually, they had two nationalities).

These kids had all the entitlements: got study grants (which were very decent), and they got accultured - up to a point.

Now, it’s hard to judge them with the benefit of hindsight - I mean, no one then could envisage the situation 2017 A.D.

Then, Turkey seemed to be, or become, a western-style democracy, with a separation between church and state, as Kemal Ataturk had wanted it.

Then things went awry. Turkey slid backward, in unforeseeable ways. It has messed up bigtime in relation to Syria, the Kurds, and even IS.

And something ugly proved to have been going on behind the scenes: those children of the first generation Turkisch guest labourers turned out to be supporters of islam totalitarianism.

I first couldn’t believe what I saw.

They appeared in TV shows, sly and superficially charming people, with an overwhelmingly majority of males, participating ‘friendly and tolerant and liberal’ in all discussions - and they were, and are true masters of evading the central questions.

And now they firmly support dictator Erdolf.

Very, very frightening, I tells ya.

(I wrote this off of the top of my head; but I thing the big picture in it is OK.)
