'Justice served' with convictions in 2nd Oregon standoff trial, prosecutor says

A jury returned guilty verdicts Friday on at least one felony charge against each of the four defendants......

Defense lawyers immediately decried the convictions of the more minor players as a miscarriage of justice when the ringleaders got off last fall.....

"So who's getting Tased?" blurted Matthew Schindler, adefense lawyer from the first trial who sat in the back of the courtroom, referencing the bizzare end to last fall's trial when marshals tackled and used a Taser stun gun on Ammon Bundy's lawyer.,,,,

Oregon's U.S. Attorney Billy Williams declared "justice has been served".......

"Just about everybody would agree if you look at this from the perspective of overall justice, it's kind of hard to square an acquittal in the first case and convictions in the second case," said Kevin Sali, a Portland-area criminal defense lawyer not tied to the case.

"There is baked into our justice system a lot of imperfection and unpredictability. It's an unfortunate but accepted fact that it doesn't always produce results that are correct or just or fair."

Defense lawyers, deflated but vowing to appeal, complained about the judge's restrictions on the number of witnesses they could call, what they perceived as the government's unfair offer of plea deals to some defendants but not others and the fact that the jury wasn't allowed to consider misdemeanor charges pending against the defendants. The judge will issue her own verdicts on the misdemeanors....

A rigged process that started last October when US District Judge Anna Brown met with the jurors in the first trial after they acquitted the seven leaders of the Oregon Standoff protestors.

She asked them why they came to their verdicts, then the prosecutors added misdemeanor charges for the second trial, the judge decided she would issue the verdicts for them, the prosecution hired a jury consultant at taxpayer expense and during the trial, the judge would not allow numerous defense witnesses to testify.

US Attorney Billy Williams of Oregon, not on the list new AG Jeff Sessions asked to resign yesterday, claimed he was not prosecuting the defendants for their beliefs and made some comments praising the rural way of life.

It appears he has the blessing of the Trump Administration and activist Gavin Seim took it further when he flat out said in a video yesterday.."this malicious prosecution against these final four was brought by the Donald Trump Administration, not the Obama Administration."

Meanwhile, the office of the Oregon US Attorney wants an arrest warrant for blogger Gary Hunt who outed FBI informants in the case on his "Outpost of Freedom" blog.

Judge Brown is taking the request under advisement.

This same kind of judicial misconduct permeates our judicial system. We need some “judicial rye toast” and a very good judicial “BM”. In other words, clean the out the system.

That shocks me.

This guy is an Obama gang enforcer.

So Trump now owns this. And that's NOT good. The people who elected him are the people egging this anti-property FedGov socialist US attorney's office on.

Sell off all federal land in the West. Turn the BLM into an advisory agency or just close it.

Return the West to the Americans.

The seven women and five men deliberated for two and a half days after a 10-day trial that proved much less dramatic than the first trial last fall when takeover leader Ammon Bundy and six other key occupiers won acquittals.

But this one had its moments.

Patrick, who said it’s turkey-hunting season where he lives in Georgia, made turkey calls in the courtroom before the judge and jury entered to announce the verdicts, prompting a deputy U.S. marshal to tell him to cut it out.

“So, who’s getting Tased?” blurted Matthew Schindler, a defense lawyer from the first trial who sat in the back of the courtroom, referencing the bizarre end to last fall’s trial when marshals tackled and used a Taser stun gun on Ammon Bundy’s lawyer.

...

These “patriots” should behave better.

Its certainly happening on the watch of the “Trump Administration” and AG Jeff Sessions.

Last fall’s trial was under Obama and Loretta Lynch.

Williams was appointed by the Obama Administration-Loretta Lynch December 12, 2015.

Why wasn’t he asked to resign?

OK. Many can agree with the sentiment, but this trial was about the illegal activities of the Bundy bunch. They aren’t doing the cause any favors with their behavior.

Justice was not served here.

Justice would be these folks getting a bill for the time they slept in a firefighter shack on government land.

The death of Lavoy Finicum isn’t remotely close to justice. There should be murder charges and a trial in that exchange.

To me, up until now, the Trump administration was/is like a brand new shiny car that just rolled off the showroom floor with no “dings” anywhere.

Now, it’s got one. Namely, allowing this Leftist prosecution to go forward while doing absolutely nothing about the murder of Lavoy Finicum when “doing nothing, is, in effect, participating in a cover up.

Hopefully, US attorney Williams has just received his pink slip. Justice is served!

I spoke without reading this post. So Williams was not fired. Maybe he soon will be.

Why is this on Trump? All was done on Obama’s watch, except the verdict.

Sorry, but I don't believe that for a minute. This was a political prosecution by the racist, Statist Obama administration.

Lemme know when Eric Holder calls for the prosecution of Antifas Terrorists in Berkeley.

Very disappointed but not surprising. The worship at the altar of government power has had a stronghold among some conservatives, leftists and big government supporters for a long time in this country.

We are really having trouble holding government agencies, that were laughing created to serve the public, accountable to any close to the accountability required for the average citizen-subject.

It’s too bad that we will have to wait until Eternity for these truly evil and malicious government people to receive their judgement.
