It’s past time to turn some of these Iranian warships into Iranian submarines.

Definitely within gun range. Unprofessional? Since when do they care about professionalism?

An artificial reef would be better.

We should bring back the old tradition of a “shot across the bow”.

Just one press release that we have mined harbor mouths and inlets would be a hoot to watch

Hard to shoot back when you’re unarmed. Invincible used to hunt subs as part of SURTASS but now is used to monitor missile launches. Someone must suspect the Iranians are planning another test.

Why would a US ship be unarmed in those waters?

The ole "shot INTO the bow" is a much more effective message.

We need to gently tell the world that there will be a 2km safe zone around our ships, in the air and on the water.

After we sink the first 3 or 4 who test the zone, everyone will be more polite with each other.

Its a USNS ship, not U.S. Navy. I never saw a USNS ship with guns in my time in combat waters of the Gulf of Tonkin or anywhere else in the Pacific.

600 yards is over 1/4 of a mile. Be assured that had any Iranian boats painted the USNS ship with fire control radar, they would have been vaporized.

I’d hate to be on one of those ships knowing there’s no backup. Remember the USS Pueblo?

Give Iran another $150 Billion and they won’t do this. Again. Until they do....

It's not a warship.

Agreed.
One or two sunken vessels should send an extremely clear message.

Do you think Maddog ‘leaked’ that 1/4 mile was the threshold for vaporization, and this was a probe/test to see what other ships lit up around this ship?

T-AGM-24 Invincible was there doing her job as a missile surveillance ship with U.S. Air Force radar designed equipment on board. Previously she a SURTASS ship with towed sonar gear for hunting and monitoring Russian subs. Had a friend at the time with Hughes Aircraft Co. on board operating the electronic gear for the Navy shortly aft her original commission in 1986.
