Maybe, the janitors just did not bother to empty the poop out of the bottom of the toilet for several scheduled cleanings and the accumulated poop was just doing what it does after too many hours in unvented confinement. Septic tank pumping? Need to learn what that is.

... does anyone here remember an Indian jet going down after someone started a cooking fire in the aisle? possibly in the 1990s... I seem to remember that it was muslims on their way to Mecca for a pilgrimage. Someone wanted tea and either he or a member of his party made a fire to boil water.

At least they stopped. I was once on a United flight from SFO to FRA seated near a very smelly lavatory. No relief for 11 and a half hours. I even had dreams about bad smells when I finally dozed off on that flight.

We flew Air India twice when TWA was on strike. What a horrible experience.

Having traveled in India I can assure Freepers that unpleasant odors, sights *and* sounds are a routine occurrence. It's hard for me to imagine how unpleasant that odor would have been to cause a flight to be diverted.
