The drive across Kansas on I-70 can be a bit . . . monotonous. It is well worth a stop in Abilene to tour the Eisenhower Museum. A must see is the family home where Ike’s room is as it was when he left for West Point. It give a lot of insight into the man and the values his family instilled.
When my Dad came home from Korea in 1952, we drove across country to his next station, in San Francisco, stopping in Abilene to visit Eisenhower's home.
I have an old photo they took of it then.
My grandmother's family in Abilene knew the Eisenhowers well, they were originally from the same Pennsylvania Dutch Mennonite denomination.
