Play time in VR is also going up, House adds. While many PSVR experiences are short, Resident Evil 7's support for VR throughout the entire game has doubled the average play length. In other words, it's a technology that may be hitting its stride as developers learn to craft more than tech demos and mini games.
It's not certain how well that stands in comparison to PC-based VR headsets. However, SuperData Research estimates that there were 243,000 Oculus Rift units sold through the end of 2016, and 420,000 HTC Vive units. If the real figures are reasonably close, that makes Sony the leading VR maker on the planet despite having a smaller amount of time to build its user base.

Oh, wait..............
Just wait ‘till they get the porn industry onboard with VR....
That ship sailed 5 years ago. I’ve been on board with Oculus since the original dev kit, and I can tell you that pornographers were VERY quick to the table with ideas.
I bought PSVR for my son (really more for me) at Christmas and I have enjoyed the experience.
The Rift with the Touch controllers is a pretty good platform. Not real fond of the tethered, “snorkel-mask” the Rift uses, but the experience is very solid. The controllers are awesome!
I like that the Rift can be purchased separate from those controllers. There’s no option like that for the Vive.
I was going to buy one of those for the grandkids at Christmas, but was told to wait a couple of years for the technology to improve. Also to see who would stick with it and put out more than two games.
I've tried to look at the demo units at our Best Buy, but they're always broken, so I've never actually tried one yet.
I figure that in a few years the technology will mature and it'll all be easier... and there will be something that I actually want to use with it. I don't do video games, and would prefer things like travel experiences, underwater stuff, mountaineering and stuff like that (Although I read somewhere there is an Everest VR game out already).
