The GovTech Social Unconference is heading to Atlanta, Georgia! On March 14-15th, join your fellow communicators to share stories and ideas from the trenches of government social media, gain insight from local leaders in the field, meet the hosts of the GovTech Social Podcast and participate in a live recording of the latest episode. Attendance is limited, so get your ticket now.

What is an Unconference?

We call this the GovTech Social “Unconference” because it is self-organizing and empowers YOU, as a participant, to help create the agenda. Eight sessions in this unconference will be dedicated to the topics, stories, and questions attendees decide to explore with each other. To make this possible, there are three key steps:

To kick off the conference, we will conduct a Pitch Session on the first day. During the Pitch Session, all attendees who have an idea for a breakout session will have up to 60 seconds to present their idea to the rest of the audience. If you have more than one breakout session idea, feel free to get back in line and pitch again!

After the Pitch Session, we will list the ideas that were presented and take a break to allow all attendees to “vote” for the breakout sessions they want to attend.

The most popular breakout sessions will form the agenda for the rest of the unconference. If your session is selected, it’s your responsibility to run the session in the format of your preference. You’re welcome to present information, lead the discussion, or simply kick off the session and see where it goes. The goal is to foster open discussion and create value for yourself and your peers.

With that in mind, please come prepared with at least one breakout session idea! Pitching an idea is the surest way to ensure that the issues most important and intriguing to you are discussed at the unconference. We encourage you to have fun with your pitch and make it memorable for the audience!

These “open discussions” will attract people with agendas. If we have agendas for transparency of spending, transparency of how regulations are formed, this would be the place to find allies.

If we oppose wasteful spending... even when it might be for ourselves, this would be the place to find allies.

If we have ideas how to make government more efficient and effective this is the place.

If we want to play defense and shoot down the fantasies of others, this is the place.
