A Santa Monica High School student has died of an unknown illness for the second time since October.
Santa Monica-Malibu School District officials issued a statement Sunday announcing the death of 18-year-old Kelly Cano, whose mother Sandra, a nurse at Santa Monica High, said quoted doctors as saying the deadly condition is not believed to have been Norovirus.

Her death was the second since Oct. 25, 2016, when tenth-grader Vanai Jelks died after falling ill following a cheerleading tournament. A cause of death has not been determined.

It's huge, affecting thousands for weeks and nary a peep, anywhere. Both tech workers and all the schools.
Technically, it is not a polio, but of the same virus family as polio. The problem was that only a few viruses of the family were believed to create polio symptoms, and apparently they were wrong in that regard. So eventually it will be called a polio.
The odd thing is that this virus had been around for years, causing only the mildest of cold-like symptoms. Then suddenly it went vicious, causing permanent paralysis just like traditional polio.
In any event, this “unknown” pathogen, if a bacteria will be quickly discovered. But in that we haven’t even classified 1% of viruses, unless it is a close kin to one that we know, it may be a while before we can get a handle on it.
