I will! I have a friend who just added two female German Shorthairs to their family, and others in my extended family have had them. Great dogs!

I’m a Labrador and/or Basset Hound gal and Beau and I raise champion Treeing Walker Coon Hounds.

40/70 benchmark ????

What does that mean?

It's a northeast weather expression. All the big snowstorms in these parts pass over or near the 40/70 benchmark. This storm position usually means New England is about to get clobbered. Any storm that passes to the west of that usually turns to rain.

I went to Colgate, which was snowy enough, but just north - like Vernon, Fonda, etc. - the snow totals were amazing.

That’s very interesting.

Here in CNY we don’t hear much about that. We have our own local jargon.

Usually the edge of the nor’easter just clips us and we don’t see a lot from it. However, in our case the further west the storm goes the more snow we usually get.

CNY varies quite a bit.

Down by Binghamton, they tend to get more rain.
Up by Watertown more snow.

However, Syracuse is in that perfect spot in between. Far enough south to get the maximum amount of moisture and far enough north so that it’s cold enough that we usually get snow. So Syracuse gets the maximum storm totals out of the nor’easters.

Now, the following day, as the storm pulls off the coast, the winds swing around and come out of the north and across Lake Ontario to give us a good shot of lake effect snow.

Usually, the lake effect hits north as the winds are usually out of the west. However the northerly winds bring it much further south and we get what our NWS refers to as the classic one two punch.

Hit by the nor’easter the first day, and the clobbered by the lake effect the second.

That happened in the Blizzard of ‘93 and the lake effect DOUBLED the storm total for the whole event north of Syracuse. Two to three feet of snow from each one.

Mr. mnm uses silicone spray.

It’s a good idea cause that wet snow is SO sticky.

Didn’t you guys get nailed with that storm that we had Friday?

Everything north of Syracuse was shut down.

It wasn’t until about Homer and Cortland that stuff was just delayed.

Today we went to check on our rental camp at Sodus Bay at Fair Haven. On the way there was so little snow we could see the stems?? of the cut corn stalks in farmers fields. Shock.

Wow.....

That is weird.

Well, this weekend may take care of that.

Time for bed. I’ll check in in the morning and see how things are progressing.

It’s mild and rainy right now.

Not a clue about what’s coming except the radar, which looks intimidating.

The storm is going to start out fairly tame but worsen significantly during the day and be it’s worst over night.

They are warning about power outages.

The more rain we get now, the less snow we get for the whole storm.

It can rain all day for all I care. You don’t have to shovel it.

The WSYR Doppler radar is really pretty.

Something you DON’T want to see.
