Lawsuit: Woman sues Tennessee sheriff who denied her access to abortion while in jail

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WZTV) — A 29-year-old claims in a lawsuit that she wanted an abortion, but the Maury County sheriff denied her access due to a lack of threat to her health.

Kei’Choura Cathey filed a federal lawsuit in Nashville last month, according to court documents.

While in Maury County Jail for robbery and murder conspiracy charges, the lawsuit says in 2015 Cathey found out she was pregnant and wanted an abortion.

Sheriff Bucky Rowland allegedly denied her access.

Cathey gave birth in April last year and is suing for $1.5 million in damages.

Meanwhile, David Randolph Smith isn't involved in the case, but the Nashville civil rights lawyer says she is protected under the 8th and 14th amendment.

“Very strong case, but I would say if there is a racial difference between her race and the sheriff's that might also be considered, did that play a part in it, also an injunctive case, if this is his policy this should be sued to stop him in the future, because what is going to happen to the next woman that comes along,” Smith said.

If this lady really does not want to be that child’s mother, for the child’s sake, I hope she can give it up for adoption.
If they force her to keep and raise this baby, there is high risk the child will be abused and/or neglected.
This is the case whether or not her lawsuit is successful.
Some people are not meant to raise children, and are aware that this is who they really are.
The mother is telling the court system this is who she is.

“robbery and murder conspiracy charges”

What kind of failed society would even possibly reward a person such as this for trying to kill her baby but being hindered because she was in jail for such horrific charges.

She was apparently part of home invasion, kidnapping, and attempted murder:

“Columbia man was shot in the head and stuffed inside the trunk of a car following a home invasion on Sunday.”

If she gets any money out of this, the judge should put a lien on it to repay the medical expenses of the attempted murder victim and repay taxpayers for the massive costs for law enforcement and the courts to deal with criminals like her. Also pay for her cost to be incarcerated, which should be for at least a decade for the extreme crimes she took part in.

These thugs think a life of crime should be a lottery ticket to get rich. Disgusting.

While in Maury County Jail for robbery and murder conspiracy charges

Is she planning to use this suit to fund her retirement when she's finally released from prison?

14th applies to convicted prisoners and 8th to county custody cases. Not sure if this lawyer is on his A game.

That Sheriff is clearly racist though for saving that black child’s life.... wait....
