Why Can't we Get Past Politics and Do What's Right for our Kids?

I'll be honest: I'm the result of a private school education, Kindergarten through Law School. My wife, however, is the exact opposite—a product of only public school. My mother-in-law is the product of public school, and was a public school elementary teacher and administrator for over 30 years. My parents went to public schools K-12. I think all of us turned out just fine. There are some excellent public schools in this country, just like there are some excellent private schools. I'm thankful for the education I received and thankful my parents could afford the choices they made for my sister and me. Life isn't always fair, but if it was, every parent would have the ability to make the same choices my parents were able to make. Every loving parent . . .

Teachers get their feelings hurt if you badmouth the schools, because they know they are doing the best they know how under difficult circumstances.

So if you just shut up and let them talk, you’ll find out that things are worse than you knew.

A union leader summed it up when he said: “I’ll put the interest of the children on the agenda when they start paying union dues.”

This article makes it sound like school choice allows you to go to an elite prep school, not.

What the union fear is the parent that car about their kids education will jump ship. All that will be left are teenage day cares. If you have any good teachers they will not stand a chance and be labeled failures.

At some point they should come to the realization that some people will always be pieces of crap no matter how much you try to fix them. Doubtful though.

We did not always force everyone to be in school up to the age of 18, whether they wanted to be there or not.

The magic of capitalism is that it allows failure.

If a public school is failing, it should be allowed to fail, and something better put in its place.

He answers his own question at the end:

“Let’s try something different, something better, something that gives power to the parents, and takes it away from the unions.”

The “logic” of the Democrats is easy to understand:

Democrats want to help people. Republicans want to hurt people.

To help people, Democrats have to win. Winning is the most important thing. If you don’t win, you cannot help people. So whatever you have to do to win, even if it hurts lots of people, is ok.

“Why Can’t we Get Past Politics and Do What’s Right for our Kids?”

That’s a simple question to answer...

Because the left and the right have very different ideas of what’s right for the kids.

1. The public school system is run by the government.

2. The government is controlled by the voters.

3. The voters disagree violently on every matter.

That’s why!

“they know they are doing the best they know how under difficult circumstances”......

Very true. I live in a small mid-western town with a great K-12 public school and many excellent teachers. Many of the kids that graduate here have become high achievers not only locally but world wide. Unfortunately, the teachers here are being held in check by their own administrative leaders and quietly tell me so on a regular basis. Can you imagine what these same teachers could do if they were given freedom to bring those same kids to their greatest potential.
