Why anybody, male, female, black, white would go to college is beyond me. Unless your plan is to go into medicine, the law or engineering, going to a blue collar apprenticeship program is an infinitely better idea. Most programs are between 4 and 6 years long. The only cost involved is for tools and maybe uniforms. During that 4 to 6 years you are paid. Generally about half of what a regular tradesman makes.
Take a look at what auto mechanics, carpenters, electricians make. Union scale, even at the low end is about $50.00 an hour. So after 4 years, you have no school debt. You have learned an ‘In Demand’ craft, and made between $20 and $30 an hour doing it. Once again, YOU GET PAID to learn. And as far a job opportunities, Just ask any home owner about getting any kind of contractor.
You are also not limited on where you live. Welders are needed everywhere. There isn’t a town anywhere in the United States that doesn’t have a auto shop. Electricians, Carpenters, Brick masons and Boilermen are needed everywhere, Including overseas and the government.
Meanwhile, after 4 years the college student has amassed anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 in debt. And probably needs another 2 years to get a masters. And then there’s the doctorate programs. If your child wants to go into medicine it could be 15 years of VERY expensive education before there is any kind of return on the investment. Not to mention what is needed for specialized fields.
For years people have put down and made fun of tradesmen, The ‘Blue collar worker’, We were told that the only way to success was college. A bachelors degree, A masters degree, a doctorate. You were lied to. If you’re a young person, in high school, just out of the military, Or just don’t have the resources to go to college, Think about an apprentice program. Doesn’t cost anything to look, and could make all the difference in 5 or 10 years.
I’m thinking the bike is not graphene or carbon fiber. In fact, it may be pig iron. Or stone.
Thanks for the tip.
That 5th girl is a little too hairy (don’t want to see the bikini version)
It’s a mostly liberal arts state school. Would you subject a premium material bike to that level of treatment?
The paint makes it more stable due to a lower CG, faster due to laminar flow, and camouflages it from predators.
I wish I’d thought of it.
Well, I am an autodidact with 99%ile SATs and ACTs, so I was spared a trip to Jove.
