How would you classify a socioeconomic system that requires a government issued license to braid hair? I'm going with fascism.

I know in Louisiana you can’t be a florist without a license.
Weird stuff.

All the protests, all the hunger strikes, all the rioting, all the civil disobedience and all the people who shed blood in the name of South Dakota hair braiding, have now fulfilled their dreams.
There will soon be a monument carved in to the side of Mt. Braidmore.

Who is surprised that the Gov is a pubbie?
(and who is surprised that it is not mentioned in the article?)

The Cosmetologists’ Union must be pissed.
As a former resident of SD I am relieved that I was never caught in violation of this law. I do not intend to turn myself in for past violations.

I just have to wonder which US political party was primarily responsible for passing a fascist law like this in the first place.

How would you classify a socioeconomic system that requires a government issued license to braid hair? I'm going with fascism. There are lots of these type of laws and they exist to raise barriers to entry so that the people who do make it into the industry can make a living. In this case there were probably people who braid hair for a living who lobbied for the law. That's the same reason you need a license to cut hair.
I'm not sure of the proper name for when government is overly responsive to industry, but fascism is probably not the correct term.
To: RC one
Well, if anyone is dumb enough to not check for licensed braiders, they get what they get.

I don’t think you understand the diseases that can be spread at the local beauty parlor.
If a town, county, or state wants to pass health laws that require health inspections and minimum requirements for these jobs, then it is none of the federal courts business.
Leave locals alone and let us govern ourselves.

I can kind of see basic licensing for doing things where a mistake can screw things up for a customer pretty bad. But that’s just showing just some basic competence; 2100 hours of training to braid hair is stupid.
