The Euros are very picky eaters!
Nothing from Israel.
Bananas cannot be to straight.
Bananas cannot have too much curvature.
All fruit and vegetables must meet a well defined set of specifications.
Name and place of origin, extremely important.

How they get fat?
I will never know?

"In 1816, the weather in Europe was so cold that it was a "year without a summer" and crops and fruit did not ripen."

Thanks for the link to the earlier discussion.

I misspelled the name: it should be Mount Tambora.

According to William K. Klingaman and Nicholas P. Klingaman, The Year without Summer: 1816 and the Volcano that Darkened the World and Changed History (2013), the eruption of Mt. Tambora was 10 times stronger than Krakatoa (1883) or Pinatubo (1991) and 100 times stronger than Mt. Vesuvius (A.D. 79) or Mt. St. Helens (1980).

I believe that at least two of my ancestors (in Europe) died of starvation in 1817 as a result of the "year without summer."

http://wqad.com/2017/02/02/bacon-shortage/

...No need to worry, bacon lovers.

News earlier this week that near-record low reserves of pork bellies could result in a nationwide bacon shortage is hogwash...

...it’s true that reserve pork bellies, which are used to make bacon, are low, the bacon supply hasn’t been affected...

...Americans love their bacon, eating 18 pounds per person per year on average...

...At any one time there are about 20 million pigs being raised in Iowa and about four million in Illinois.
