I almost missed your post leaving the page. Caught it out of the corner of my eye and it’s a great summary of the situation.

Very simple; people get to choose them if they want, just no special federal subsidy or promotion of them.

If the only thing that makes any form of energy “efficient” in dollars and cents, is direct federal subsidy and promotion, then in open markets they’d loose.

Just curious, how is it converted to AC efficiently?

.
With an inverter.

I use Heart inverters because they can be remotely controlled. My battery banks and solar panels are on a separate structure from the house.

Can it deliver five cents per kilowatt-hour at the residential meter?

The Allam power cycle is field testing 2nd half 2017. Gas and coal are fuel for the turbine system. Efficiency 52% on coal and 61% on NG, including the CO2 pumping losses into a pipeline for oilfield injection.

Allam cycle gas turbine system of 350 MW will have a 2-3 hour start-up from cold. Electrical turn-down is 100% without a drastic loss of efficiency, yet still off loads CO2 produced from hot stand-by operation to a pipeline. Will load follow with a ramp of 3-5% per minute.

Thank you. I did not know current technology.

Yet, isn’t it true that a non producing backup power source will take up to a few hours to come online after a wind calm, or a storm, reduces alt energy, so the turbine needs to be running on standby all the time to prepare for the immediate energy needs?

“Trump’s victory creates uncertainty for wind and solar power”

yeah, i don’t think there any uncertainty at all; I’m absolutely certain that all Fed subsidies of all types for solar and wind will be eliminated. part of that coming 10% budget cut no doubt.

Both wind and solar work but intermittently. They are fine for an off the grid house if you are willing to adjust your life around not having power always available in abundance.

This does not work very well for a factory, a hospital or even a traffic light.

Should they ever come up with a very small battery that will hold a weeks worth of power for a house, requires no maintenance, recharges on only an hour of sunlight and lasts for a good twenty years, why then solar power might become all the rage. At least in the more sunny areas of the country.

Trump has nothing against these forms of energy - when they become economically viable, he will welcome the businesses that got them working at a cost that makes the company viable as a stand-alone company, w/o government assistance/funding into the fold of the economic powerhouse.

Until then, they are just wasteful welfare programs.

Good! Most of the ‘alternative energy’ schemes have been boondoggles with the corporations collecting federal dollars, then closing up shop.
