Wayne Newton would be the perfect entertainer for the inauguration. He is the king of Las Vegas. Still going strong.

We went through the Wayne Newton thing already during the Reagan administration.

And can we please stop using Free Republic as a Youtube mirror for arbitrary pop and classic rock (and now jazz and Vegas act) videos.

Wayne Newton sang “Danke Schoen” like a ten year old boy. Johnny Carson made fun of this with gay jokes aimed at Newton, who threatened to beat him up.

For the record, Wayne Newton is not gay. But his Vegas act is very, very old, now.

I saw Wayne Newton in person in February, 1980, when he was part of a star-studded birthday tribute to Ronald Reagan at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The presidential campaign was underway, so this was actually a campaign rally. Newton didn’t sing but served as a sort of master of ceremonies.

Other stars that showed up were Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, who led the audience in singing “Happy Birthday.”

I like these threads. They demonstrate that conservatives have a wide variety of musical tastes and don't listen only to harpsichord music while sipping sherry.

I remember him when he was a thin kid on TV. Then he began to “swell” a little, then bigger then fat as a blimp. His manager shamed him into losing huge amounts of weight and singing in a lower octave.

Google: Wayne Newton then click on images. Both he and his wife have had too much plastic surgery.
