Sorry I'm late but the week got away from me. It's been dam cold and our utility bill was $605 for the month and it's been colder since then. Have had a few seed catalogs including this one. Daffodils are showing up out by the street. I''ll be 84 this year and have to be careful not to fall and break a hip or similar…

Thanks for the pics. Be careful out there. I have been able to keep the heat bill down by dressing up warm and using an electric blanket when I sit down. Hubby fired stuff up today, because he wanted the house to have more heat in case the electricity went off.

I am only 69, but I do not even put a toe outdoors if there is ice - Have had 3 generations in my family who broke hips and spent the rest of their lives in wheelchairs. I already have osteo porosis so I just don’t take chances.

Back when I had to get out, I used kitty litter to sprinkle on the ice. Stay in and stay warm.

Thankfully we don’t have ice to contend with ice here in town and I stay off the wooden deck when it’s frosty. It got down to 29 a week ago and then it rained buckets of H2O four days raising our rivers to over flood stage...

I had to put them up for foster care when I went to Texas to look for work. Never actually thought I’d get them back but held out against adoption until the very last day, when they were selected for foster. Wound up in a situation where I got them back after about 10 months.

Now the little one just gets all quiet when I go out the door; even to the grocery store. Both of them have been known to sit at the top of the steps, gazing towards the door I went out of. I was on the road for a few months trying out a lousy job that I hoped would provide a new home for all of us (it was virtually an impossible situation). The little one went missing one night and couldn’t be found; wouldn’t respond to being called. They found him in the bathtub, behind the shower curtain. Maybe he thought the shower got me. He’s my constant companion and a reminder of my mom’s care for him and the other one. He brings me joy, which is rare these days. He’s in his dog bed right behind me at the moment.

That pup is an absoluute cutie :)

I am feeling pretty bad watching our old dogs this winter. You can tell the cold weather is hurting their bones. They refuse to come inside and huddle under the sheds or in their hay filled houses. They get around as gimpy as I do and I guess maybe they get their stubbornness about not coming in the house from me too.

So true. And chocolate is supposed to be good for you.

I’ve been blessed. I don’t particularly like chocolate or ice cream. I’ll eat it to be polite. If I have an addiction it would be to peas!!! Some people call them English Peas. They’ll be planted March 15 - if the ground has thawed. Two months! There’s nothing better than sitting in the garden eating handfuls of warm peas!

ANYTHING straight from the garden works for me!

I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, either, though I love to bake.

We usually have a few bars of the high-quality chocolate on hand for when the craving strikes.

Coffee is my downfall, but things could be worse. ;)

We have had a couple of mild days with some melting of the snow and Ice. I for some reason can’t get the tiller to till? (sarcasm of course) Our water levels seem to be good as I watch the rivers which reflect it pretty well ... and beyond that it is a reasonable winter so far and i look forward to spring to see how tough my baby black willow tree is..I hope all here are doing well.

We are back to freezing tonight, but then are supposed to warm up for a few days. Freezing rain, so far the electric wires have held up.

Some of our neighbors can use prayer today please. Tornado came thru last night. Our place is fine. Nearby neighbors are in various degrees of damage/destructon. Some pets and livestock are gone, one home demolished, many roofs, barns and outbuidings destroyed. One church damaged. All humans safe. Hubby was out from 4 A.M. this morning helping neighbors.

Our power has been out for about 15 hours so far. No word yet on restoration. I may have to go on a massive canning spree to keep the meat from the freezers, but that’s a minor deal. We no longer have a deep freeze but have two refrigerators with full freezers.

Central Missouri was more or less unscathed by the ice storm that was going to kill us all.

We are generally well-stocked on essentials at all times, but I did discover over the weekend that I need to build a brewery. What good is all that food if there’s nothing to wash it down with? lol

I had intentions, weather permitting, to prune orchard trees over the weekend. Instead, I spent most of Saturday chopping up a very large elm tree that fell across the fence into the horse pasture. Yesterday was just too nasty outside to do much of anything, so not much of anything was what I did.

We’re in the middle of an ice storm. Beau is still on the road, driving back from hog hunting in TX. Hoping for an update, soon.

Prayers Up for your community. Glad you were spared for the most part. We had a power failure on Christmas Eve one year. THAT was a lot of fun. Not!

Glad to hear that you came through the tornado, relatively unscathed.
Prayers up for your neighbors and your husbands work in the community!
We have an ice storm supposed to come through tonight around midnight.

We also made it through. Stocked up on perishables before it. We have lots of canned goods, dehydrated goods etc. all the time any way.

Hubby got serious about testing the generator, and filling up some gas cans, so we could run the frig and freezer and other stuff if needed.

I didn’t even open the door. Stayed inside. I’m going to order some cans of dehydrated food today for long term storage, from a catalog that came in over the weekend.

With the Fed raising rates, stock market rise, Trump coming in, gasoline prices going up, I expect inflation to pick up, so I am going to add to my usual stock of long term storage - anything that will keep 20 years or more and stock up on some of the 1 year rotation stuff we have used.

Prayers up for safe travels for Beau. Today was a beautiful day here. I took a drive around the countryside with the top down on the car. Sadly, the destruction is worse than I expected. Many more damaged or destroyed homes than I expected. We were definitely blessed at our house. The whole community is out helping with cleanup and repair tho.

I was glad I did some stocking up in the last few weeks. With some local folks having all this destruction today it was good to be able to offer some food to those in need today. My sweetheart was out working and helping but didn’t want me out working physically to help. So, I fixed up a bunch of folks with hearty supper tonight from my stores.

I’d just done my annual inventory of stored comestibles last weekend so this was the perfect way to use up some things I needed to use and share at the same time. Now I’ve got some space to put my new stuff too.

Oh, I hope Beau had good luck in his hog hunting too. Is he down hunting javelina? Or any feral?

We do have a serious feral hog problem here causing much agricultural damage. The flip side is, we get good meat on our table pretty regularly from all that free meat running loose. We don’t have as many in our county as a lot of Texas but my daughter and son-in-law up on the Oklahoma line bring in quite a few every year. Their freezer overflows to us.

A lot of people won’t eat the feral hogs but they’re good if they aren’t too old and haven’t been feeding on cedar. The ones who’ve fed on cedar are pretty rank and I don’t know anyone who’s been able to marinate or cook that out. Lots of suggested methods but none we found that works for us. Son-in-law does cook those up for his hounds tho.
