The heavy, meticulous work of mining & refining tons of ore to extract the precious element Au (79), then heating it to 1,948oF and molding the molten gold into bars, bricks, & coins of .999 purity with very precise weights, transporting the bullion safely into securely locked vaults, to create a permanent bulwark of durable Reserves backing an authorized, controlled amount of paper currency in circulation to facilitate legitimate commerce, promote sound contracts & business planning, and protect a nation's citizens' purchasing power & store of value, is a noble profession – a high calling.
The derisive term "goldbricker" is a bastardization of this venerable devotion to applied metallurgy & sound economics.
