Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday re-hung a painting on Capitol Hill that depicts a police officer as a pig, just days after a Republican colleague took it down -- in a move sure to inflame the controversy and rile law enforcement groups.
California Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter on Friday personally removed the painting, saying he was angered by its depiction of police. He said Tuesday the piece also violates the art-contest rules.
But Democratic Rep. Lacy Clay, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus from whose Missouri district the picture came, said Tuesday after helping re-hang the picture that Hunter’s action was “blatant censorship.”
Clay has said he wants the Capitol Hill police to file theft charges against Hunter, who after removing the painting returned it to Clay’s congressional office. Clay insisted he is not “anti-police” and said he “does not agree or disagree with the painting” -- arguing his intent is to defend the First Amendment rights of the 18-year-old artist, David Pulphus. He argued the artist’s world view has been shaped by the “animalistic” behavior of police officers, particularly the recent, high-profile cases in which unarmed black males died in confrontations with police.
The acrylic painting depicts a police officer as a pig in uniform aiming a gun at African-American protesters. Above the scene, two birds -- one black, one white -- fight, and beside them, an African-American protester holding a scale of justice is crucified.
Law enforcement groups had strongly objected to the painting’s display on the Capitol complex grounds, with one group calling it “reprehensible, repugnant and repulsive.” Earlier Tuesday, Hunter said on the Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends”: “The Capitol Police aren’t going to arrest me for taking down a picture that portrays them as pigs.”

I bet Lacy Clay doesn't think her statement, "This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kinda gives permission for other people to do the same thing." has any connection between his actions and the 64 police officers shot dead in the line of duty last year.

I’m certainly not looking to Paul Ryan to save “us” but he is the Speaker of the House. I thought he could peacefully have the art removed.
Of course I would love to see bikers or other patriots kick azzz and take names but that would only put good people in jail.

The artist based the iconoclastic elements of his painting on a rumor that doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital had discovered Chicago Mayor Washington was wearing female underwear under his suit at the time of his unexpected death and that Mayor Washington was rumored to be gay.
JUST AN ARTFUL IDEA Maybe a photoshopper could reproduce the Mayoral painting in honor of Cog Clay---using the head of Cong Clay. Should be hung in a prominent place in the Congress.
