“Heres the thing: Pick plays are legal. As long as no offensive pass interference occurs, theres nothing wrong with having two receivers run routes that are meant to make things difficult for DBs. Its been happening forever.”
letter of the law is the receiver performing the pick is suppose to be facing the QB as a legitimate target...this receiver was nothing more than a pure blocker and he did in fact interfere with Bama’s DB ability to defend the pass...
Thanks. I didn’t even know what a pick play was. Great game.
Indeed. Back in the days of Alexander the Great, they were called 'sappers'.
If there was a penalty on the last play, it was defensive holding. The alleged “pick” receiver was practically tackled by the DB in front of him.
The Clemson TD earlier in the game (the fade route to the right corner) was a blatant pick with a token turn-around to look toward the QB after the contact was made and the ball was thrown. If I was an Alabama fan, rather than a die-hard hater, I might have been whining about the no-call rather than celebrating it.
Unless of course the defender grabs the receiver and pulls him down, which of course is what really happened.
“...this receiver was nothing more than a pure blocker and he did in fact interfere with Bamas DB ability to defend the pass...”
1st point made, NOT SO as the defender actually GRABS the receiver around the shoulder, making it legal; 2nd point, YES he did ‘interfere’ with DB’s opportunity, but not illegally.
