Employees at a North Broad Street store shot and attacked a man who returned to the store he unsuccessfully tried to rob, New Orleans police said.

The man, identified in a preliminary report as David Vaughn, was armed when he first walked into Triangle Deli, 1904 N. Broad St. He showed a store cashier a gun in his waistband and ordered the cashier to give him money from the register, police said.

The cashier pointed a gun at the man and led him out of the store, police said. Vaughn returned about 12:20 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 1), but three employees saw him as he entered the store.
