The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus will celebrate Carrie Fishers life with a Princess Leia-themed, second line-style parade in New Orleans on Friday evening. Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the popular Star Wars film series, died yesterday at the age of 60.
According to NOLA.com, participants will gather at Markey Park in the Bywater at 3pm. The approximately one-hour parade will begin at 4pm, andd will travel one block north down Mazant Street before turning right on Dauphine Street. It will then turn left on Poland Avenue and make its way to Castillo Blanco (Chewbacchus headquarters) on the corner of Poland and St. Claude Avenue.
The Leijorettes, a marching group whose 100+ members don Princess Leia costumes, will lead the second line.
A memorial party for Fisher is slated to take place at Castillo Blanco after the parade wraps up. Local musicians will perform in her honor, though no acts have been confirmed at this time. These post-parade festivities will be free to attend, but donations will be accepted as the krewe assumes the party and parade will cost them roughly $1000.
The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus is a Star Wars-themed Mardi Gras krewe that takes its name from Chewbacca, a character in the Star Wars film series. The krewe will roll on February 18, 2017, two Saturday before Mardi Gras Day.
I know SOMEWHERE there is a FReeper that would want to rain on this parade, but I find it to be a kind and poignant tribute to a cultural icon.
Ms. Fisher fought demons her whole life and overall did better than not and had an impact as both Leia and as an author.
RIP and I wish I could watch this in person.
Cultural icon? Only someone vapid and hopelessly stupid would seek inspiration and guidance from a drug addicted, alcoholic “celebrity”. Celebrity worship is a sign of cultural decadence. This impaired woman was famous largely for pretending to be other people.

Thanks for being “that person.” I knew you were out there somewhere.
If you hurry, you can get to New Orleans and join the parade. Suspect it will be a life altering experience for you.

Sounds like fun but I can’t make it.
That didn’t take long.
FWIW, allendale, she was also famous for trying real hard to overcome her inner demons, and for her kindness to others.
Maybe some of us could take a cue, and try to pretend as much.
Just sayin’.
Oh well. Never know when an opportunity like that will happen again. Just the same. Happy New Year! (Unless of course you are on some sort of galactic timetable)
I had a young college student in my class named Princess Leia (last name withheld). Not sure what the parents were thinking here.
Take a good ,hard look at your life if you are really emotionally distraught over the death of Carrie Fisher.
Yep. There is always that person. So many also claim the name of Christ...yet show the compassion of the devil
Happy New Year as well, FRiend. My sig says it all, I hope.
We intergalactic types celebrate both terrestrial and intergalactic new years’.
:)
People who idolize and look to celebrities for inspiration are neo pagan devil worshipers.
I rarely venture into New Orleans anymore but I might make an exception. I’m sure this will be a blast!
Can anyone tell me what is meant by the term “second line”?

And it took two post for that clown to post.
Dont worry, when some old drug addicted country music star dies, we will just remind people in FR to not get all weepy, and say anything good about them.
Or ANYONE that wasn’t as perfect as you are.
Swear to Christ some of you need to get a life
