Dec. 21 was the costliest single day for the Turkish army’s Euphrates Shield incursion into Syria. At least 16 Turkish soldiers, supporting an assault force of 1,500–3,000 Free Syrian Army militia fighters, died in clashes with the Islamic State in its stronghold of Al-Bab.

Money quote:

These operational shortcomings on the part of Ankara are likely the result of heavy reliance on its FSA proxy fighters and the widespread purges of military officers by the Turkish government in recent months following the failed July 15 coup attempt. If not rectified, Turkey’s Euphrates Shield operation will undoubtedly prove more costly for Ankara as it pushes deeper into the Syrian quagmire.

Sounds like the Red Army against Finland.

People like Stalin and Erdogan believe that to make an omelet, you need to break a few eggs… and maybe a few chefs.

Good deal. They’re running support for the”free Syrian army”, also know as ISIS. I hope Syrian forces continue to be successful and inflict heavy losses in Turkish forces as the opportunities present themselves.

Every place Turkey tries to go turns into a Quagmire, because the world remembers what they did to the Armenians.

Erdogan conspired with saudi Arabia to initially support ISIS. Erdogan saw them as the shock troops to create a new caliphate out of large parts of Syria and Iraq that he and Turkey would control. He also saw them as a fighting force against the Kurds. The Saudis envisioned a Sunni jihadist state that would buffer them against Shi’ite Iran. The Saudis of course thought that they with their money would control the new state. Both Turkey and Saudi Arabia came to realize that neither could control the barbaric ISIS jihadists and ISIS became a threat to both. Obama and Kerry had absolutely no clue what was really happening and were the clown factor in Syria and Iraq. It would be best for the region if both Erdogan and the House of Saud passed into the sands of history. ISIS is a counter modern reactionary force that will ultimately collapse. It has always been up to the locals to work out their own consensus.

Turkey is asking the USA to ‘help them’ in Syria and talking about a ‘no-fly zone’ to shut down Russian and Syrian forces fighting the ISIS and Al Qaeda (Free Syrian Army) forces.

The FSA is not ISIS
More like the remains of deserters from Assad’s army mixed with islamist militias nurtured by the muslim brotherhood

ISIS has a lot of foreign jihadist and an Iraqi leader Al Baghdadi who invited them into SYRIA to fight for “ his” caliphate

The bromance between Turkey and ISIS seems to be on the ropes with ISIS releasing video of burning 2 Turkish soldiers alive and Erdogan cooperating with Russians following the humiliating assassination of the Russian ambassador by a a radicalized turkish security guy

In order to make nice with Russia and get some help is containing the Kurds, Iran, and keeping an eye on the Gulenistas in the USA , Erdogan is going to have to accept Assad and respect Syrian territorial integrity - and stop sheltering and arming terrorists and islamist radicals

Multiple errors. Supporting moderate neck cutters. Sacking officers. Crossing the border into Syria. Working with Obama. Underestimating Isis.

True enough.

The differences in FSA and ISIS are at best, purely academic. Both are Sunni jihadis. Both behead. Both subjugate women.

Being dishonest about his true strategic goal which is not fighting terror or even opposing Assad
It is about preventing Kurdistan

Erdogan cooperating with Russians

I haven't seen that yet. I have seen Erdogan backpedaling every time he oversteps against the Russians. Until he sees another chance to tweak the Bear.

I saw an ISIS video of two Turkish soldiers being burned alive. It was the most horrific thing I have ever seen. I had difficult sleeping last night because of it. I wish I had not seen it. ISIS, representing the authentic Islam, is the absolute embodiment of evil.

They do not, however, represent behavior different in any way from the Turks.

You're probably right. Turkey under Erdogan has been abandoning its former secular ways, returning to the more fundamentalist form is Islam. The more Islamic a nation is, the more brutal, ruthless and evil.
