Like all gun owners, I've had a veritable land of misfit holsters. Whenever I go into a gun store, I always dig through the bucket of used garbage to check out a particular style or brand of holster, and use it before I decide to buy something good.

about 8 years ago I picked up a Don Hume slide sorta holster. The 710 model, I believe. It's been wonderful and it's been my favorite.

When I get up in the morning, the holster is threaded into my belt, and it stays there all day. Even if I'm not carrying. The profile of it makes it invisible when I leave the pistol behind for any reason.

I do not like IWB holsters, but i'm not so dumb that I would turn down suggestions. I like OWB, and I carry at 3-5 o'clock on my right. I'm 5'7", 150 pounds and everything prints on me. I don't mind printing so much.

I'm looking for suggestions to replace this Don Hume that I may not have considered with the following points in mind:

1. Hangs too low and the draw is great, but the interference with my hips, car seat, wallet and seat belt become an issue. 2. Rides too high and those issues are solved - including other issues of concealment but I like to keep a pistol very close to my body, and a high-riding holster tends to "flop" around, regardless of belt choice. 3. I conceal by wearing blousey shirts, untucked. When i work I wear a suit. I keep the gun under the jacket and when I can't either open carry or wear a jacket, the pistol comes out and sits in my car safe, in view. Some of my clients appreciate the gun, some don't. (This is why the Don Hume 710 was perfect because without a gun in it it just looked like a part of my belt. So I didn't need to yank up on a holster, pull my underwear out, and look like a chump doing it. I could lock up my pistol without even getting out of the car. 4. I prefer Leather, non-retention. Kydex interiors are neat. Metal belt clips are a solid no-go. I hate those things. They never hold. If I draw the pistol and the holster comes with it, it goes straight into the garbage.

Thanks to my Freoples for advice, stories or recommendations. My usual carry is either an SP101 or an Hk P30.

Merry Christmas to all !

I have a number of OWB (Outside the Waist Band) holsters, but the one I use the most lately is a Simply Rugged ‘Cuda: http://www.simplyrugged.com/

.
Go to Amazon and search.

It usually only takes a few days to get them, along with lots of other goodies.

Optics Planet also has lots of holsters.

I carry a S&W 642 quite a bit in a Don Hume JIT Slide. It works great for the small, light revolver.

Cons: I've carried larger guns in the JITs, but they don't hold quite as close to the body. In addition, they don't have the 15 degree cant that I like for larger guns.

It might work well for your SP101, depending on the barrel length.

I like Alien and Galco IWB, but for a belt holster check these guys out: http://www.highnoonholsters.com/
(I finally found a good holster for a CZ97B after years of searching, but I’ll be dipped if I can remember the name. Any frustrated CZ owner interested, let me know and I’ll go look.)

Your broken one seemed to be a very good holster. Maybe it could be repaired. That reminds me that when I was a kid, just about every town had a cobbler. They would also typically repair just about any leather product.

Have you ever tried a Fobas Kydex paddle holster?

And doesn’t everyone have a box of unused/little-used holsters, on a more general subject?

Check out http://www.gunblast.com/

This guy does videos on a lot of products and holsters. You may be able to search and find a cross reference. He includes holster reviews in tools of the trade segments and also while reviewing guns he’ll show some holsters.

He’s really tapped in to a lot of cottage companies. Holster’s aren’t that high tech.

I too wear loose shirts and carry in canted leather OWB holsters. Sometimes I pocket carry a smaller gun. I have tried, but am just not built for IWB.

Milt Sparks is the only CCW holster I’d consider.

Not cheap, long wait, well worth it.

And yes, IWB.

Never owned one, but Ken Lane has sold me on the DLW Fugly . Check it out (warning: the article has some four-letter words in it). It seems to have just about everything I want in a holster.

My carry is always IWB and Alien Gear is a great place to start.

But you never said what you are carrying. I carry either a
Glock 26 or a S&W J-frame.

One thing I use is leather belt loops with directional snaps instead of metal clips.
