What is the lie, and why is it “malicious?”

Obama backed the rebels. They lost Aleppo. They have little opportunity to resume their fight after billions in US aid and equipment.

Facts have an annoying way of being factual.

But Lindsey Graham said the “Free Syrian Army” would save the day, oust Assad, and bring democracy to all.

Lunatics are running DC.

Time to institutionalize them.

“What is the lie, and why is it “malicious?””

History is not written, it happens.

Reports of history may be slanted but to say that the winners write it is the territory of saying that the Earth is flat with five corners and Jerusalem sits in the center, directly beneath the throne of God. Good historians are chroniclers of events that actually happen as well as interpreters of events.

To say that history is written by the winners as the false parable strongly implies means that all history is lies and winners are always as big a criminals as the losers. That the winners have no interest in telling the truth or determining the truth because it always makes them look bad.

Do you believe the Bible? Read it then! The Jews were the losers. They lost to the Egyptians, the Philistines, the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Medes and Persians, and the Roman. Did any of those groups write the Bible? If history is written by winners we’d all be be worshiping Marduk, Ba’al, Zoroaster or Caesar.

The false proverb also ignores groups like the Mongols that left no written records. Almost everything we know about the Mongol invasion of 1230 AD was written by the losers! Does that mean there was no invasion or that the Khan didn’t pile headless coupes 30 feet high outside of city gates?

The same is true of most of the barbarian tribes that invaded Rome. They didn’t have historians. If history is written by the winners does that mean that Rome never fell and Titus Livey was an adventure novelist?

Did the Native Americans win? Do you know anything about their culture? Is the history you learned about the Indian wars always sympathetic to the invading US or Europeans? Almost none of the accounts you read of the massacres inflicted upon native Americans were written by the winning side. So did the Indians win?

History is not written by the winners because it is not written but happens, but even if it was that doesn’t automatically mean it was written wrong or slanted which is what the fake proverb clearly suggest.

It is malicious because it clearly implies that we cannot ever really know the past; which means that we cannot ever understand the present. The past affects us in ways both subtle and obvious sometimes for 100’s or 1000’s of years. The loser often affect us as much or more as the winners.

If you think I’m strident about this ask me about the other big popular lies:

“People fear what they don’t understand.” That one is really wrong!

Or why I don’t believe in self-evident things!

And don’t get me started about the “Noble Savage” BS
