Tommy G. Thompson was once one of the greatest treasure hunters of his time: A dark-bearded diver who hauled a trove of gold from the Atlantic Ocean in 1988 - dubbed the richest find in U.S. history.
Years later, accused of cheating his investors out of the fortune, Thompson led federal agents on a great manhunt - pursued from a Florida mansion to a mid-rent hotel room booked under a fake name.
Now Thompson's beard has grayed, and he lives in an Ohio jail cell, held there until he gives up the location of the gold.
But for nearly two years, despite threats and fines and the best exertions of a federal judge, no one has managed to make Thompson reveal what he did with the treasure.

Sorry, I typed too fast. 12 oz troy in a pound troy.
Gold tons are most commonly metric tonnes. There are 32,150.75 oz troy in a metric tonne.
Short tons are also used. There are 29,166.67 oz t in a short ton.

What the heck? Tell them that he gave it to the Klintoon Foundation.
They’ll never investigate it.

Think you can ply me with Martin Short bits and whiskey, and then let me have my way with you?

Why is the government so obsessed with taking money from people when they can print anything they need for any purpose on a whim?

Why just this morning I was watching Gunsmoke, and the guy tossed a chest of gold off the train and into the buckboard five feet away! Strong dude. I have a small chest of silver (very small chest), and it's incredibly heavy to lift. No way can I toss it five feet away. And that's silver, not gold.

Treasure aside one of the greatest parts of the tale recounted in the book is that the ships sinking made the Titanic look like a pansy fest. In a nutshell most of the men died from exhaustion/drowning keeping the ship afloat by hand bailing until the women were rowed off to a couple of battered sailing vessels in 30 or 40 foot seas!
