What is “Step 13”? Is it like a “welfare to work” program? Why won’t the Denver Gov have anything to do with them?

Step 13 is an organization that is independent from the government. They get funding from non-governmental sources. They require strict adherence to sobriety and work. They do work training(especially for remodeling houses) and they accept donated cars to be fixed up and sold in like new shape. Step 13 does not tolerate relapses into alcohol. The local Denver government does not want to cure the problems of substance abuse. They only want to make money off of it for their own financial enrichment. They are democrats. There are Mexican heroin drug dealers all over Denver with needles all over the Speer Blvd. bike path and Denver is a sanctuary city for illegals. Like I said, Denver is a democrat city.

(sorry to hammer this, but Step 13 is the best out there, and they still succeed only about 1/3 of the time.)

The founder:

"Bob Coté would became a fixture on Larimer Street. A towering presence of tough love, American Enterprise magazine described him as “a one-man alternative to the welfare state. Take one part Florence Nightingale, add three parts John Wayne, and one part cowboy poet…running a shelter that turns homeless drunks and junkies into productive citizens….”

Step 13 is kind of like the Doe Fund in NYC, except that Step 13 has a residential component, which to my knowledge, the Doe Fund doesn’t provide.

However, the Doe Fund has gotten got thousands of “homeless” men off the streets with a program where the participants begin by picking up trash or being attendants in parks and commercial spaces in a Doe Fund area. The men get their acts together, take pride in what they are doing, and go on to have real lives. I’m about to make them a Christmas donation...
