Let see, the road is icy and full of wet snow. Visibility is poor and we are driving in a rural and residential area mix.
I would be driving 15-25 mph. Certainly no more than 30 mph.
I was at a stop light once coming off a freeway. It was between 12 and 1 am in the morning. I was on the red and when it turned green I didn’t move because I saw a car coming, speeding with the intent to run the light. The driver behind me honked, then pulled out and gunned into the intersection only to be T-boned.
Don’t worry so much about what’s in front of you. Worry about what’s in front of the person you’re behind. It’s the quickest and earliest indication of what’s going to go wrong.
For years we heard the slogan, “Watch the Other Guy!” in regards to traffic safety. It was a good message - wonder why they stopped using it.
I watch a lot of youtube “crash compilation” videos. They have helped me in a lot of ways, but the two most clear ones:
1. I got a dash cam.
2. I look both ways when I get a green light.
