The Collapsing Democratic Party (under Obama) in Six Stunning Charts [Russia's fault]

Hillary Clinton’s major loss to Donald Trump last Tuesday night not only revealed her campaign’s failure to read the American people, it also exposed the fact that the Democratic ticket has been in remarkable decline since Obama took office.

The Democratic bench was already in a sorry state, but the situation just got much worse last week.

As the Washington Post explains:

“Think of a political party like an Army. To have effective generals, you need to bring leaders up through the ranks. If everyone keeps getting killed off on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of any given November, you’re not going to be able to win many battles. The Democrats gained two Senate seats — in a year that it was long assumed they would regain control of the chamber.”

Two patterns to note. The first is that the Democrats surged into power in 2006 and 2008, winning seats in elections that would normally have leaned to the Republicans. So some of the losses since 2008 are a function of reversion to norm, light-red areas going red once again. The second is that federal and state races largely correlate. A good year for the GOP nationally tends to make a good year at all levels.

It can be hard to see the extent to which the Democratic collapse has occurred. Here is the percentage change in each case since 2008:

The Washington Post also explains:“We tend to focus on the loss of the presidency as the example of Democratic failure. That’s blinkered. Since 2008, by our estimates, the party has shed 870 legislators and leaders at the state and federal levels — and that estimate may be on the low side. As Donald Trump might put it, that’s decimation times 50.”

Since 2008, this is what the Democratic decimation has looked like. (Data sources from House.gov, Dr. Carl Klarner)

First the POTUS election wipeout of the Democrat Party...then the failed Stein/Clinton POTUS recount......now, the bogus Russian hacking....all have failed!!! The self-destruction of the Democrat Party continues, unabated. Wait until DJT calls for a recount in California, New York, Nevada & New Hampshire. All those illegal votes that are revealed, will sink the Democrat Party forever!!! LMAO!!!

Let’s refund the sanctuary cities, replace many of the colleges with automated online schooling (while eliminating all limits on how many courses can be CLEPed out of) and slash bureaucratic jobs.

A man fighting for his life who hasn’t slept in a month, eaten in a week, or had a drink of water in two days is easily manageable.

It’s just the normal cycle. The mushy middle don’t like the president’s allies. The charts were pretty much the same coming out of Clinton and people were talking about a permanent/ 20 year GOP majority... And of course if you flip the colors the charts for 2000 through 2008 looked about the same and people talking about a permanent/ 20 year Dem majority... The simple fact is there’s a cyclical nature to politics, countries run in one direction for a while, then they stop and say “hey, that didn’t solve all our problems, these guys suck” and run the other way. It happens to all countries that allow the people to have a voice, with our 2 4 year term structure it’s very clockwork here, other places the durations are a little more random, but the nature of the cycle remains the same.

My take away from this is that the recent election results shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone as it’s pretty consistent with their recent performance trend. More than that, I think it pretty clearly illustrates that they didn’t lose in 2016 because of Russia. Vladimir Putin didn’t have anything to do with 2010, 2012, 2014, or 2016. They need to look in the mirror I think.

Obama might be the LAST Democrat President. I see that party splitting apart into oblivion like the Whigs.

I think that’s true to an extent, but the runs haven’t always been as short as they seem to be getting now. I think it will be hard for the Democrats to recover this time because they’ve bought into a view of the world that considers the views of most Americans to be morally repugnant. Normally, you can negotiate and compromise your way to a majority coalition, but you can’t do that with people who are “racist, sexist, xenophobe, etc.” We’ll see how long it takes them to realize that . . .

“A drowning man fights hardest just before he goes under for the last time...”

It’s going to be a wild ride from now until the midterms.

Liberals aren’t going away, but the late 1960s officially ended with the election of Trump. These recounts and “Russians” are simply news to keep their base all riled up and interested. Once Trump is formally elected by the Electoral College, these stories will go pretty much ignored by all except the Liberal base of the Democratic Party (assuming that they’re false stories about the Russians ... and I’m fairly confident that they’re crap).

Trump can literally break the Liberal wing of the Democratic Party if he does a good job from now until the 2018 midterms. While it’s a longshot (but realistic) goal, sweeping the Senate seats up for grabs in the solid red states + maybe picking up a seat or three in the “new” red states will cripple the Democrats. Donors will start to dump Liberals as they’ll be seen as nothing more than the toxic slime that they are.

The nasty side effect of such a victory could be a merging of the “not-really-that-liberal” wing of the Democrats with RINOs, but the plus side of that is an indication that the nation is swinging to the right as well as steering the Republican party more towards the conservatives. Liberals would be isolated to the northeast, west coast, and Illinois.

While it’s foolish to proclaim the Democrats “done for”, there’s a *really* good chance Trump could neutralize the power held by the idiotic liberals we’ve got to know and love over the past several decades. All he has to do is do a good job :-).

Get rid of about 15 million illegals and restrict immigration to 1960 levels and watch the Rat theft party evaaporate completely.

That’s what happens to people who abort and contracept themselves out of existence.

Actually they’ve been pretty much like this since the end of the Civil War. There’s been a couple of outliers like Bush 1 being the first sitting VP to win the presidency in over 100 years, and of course FDR, offset Carter going 1 term. But for the most part the pattern runs pretty solidly, 1 side wins the presidency, loses seats in the midterm, wins re-election, loses even more seats in the second midterm, other side wins the presidency, lather rinse repeat. I read a great article (right here actually) on that pattern back in 2003, and that article predicted all the presidential and midterm results we’ve had since then. The hardest part the Dems have keeping the pattern is that the 2018 Senate class is the same one that was Obama’s 2nd term and Bush’s 2nd midterm, the GOP has so few seats up in 2018 it’s basically impossible for the Dems to gain seats in that chamber.

that would be such an awesome feather in his cap!!!

“This Man’s Presidency, Barack Hussein Obama, lead to the complete annihilation of the DNC!
Coupled with crooked policy maneuvers, primary election cheating, and Clintons “pay for play” charity scam, the DNC died, Jan 20th 2017, not coincidentally the very day Donald Trump Took Office”.

“...the GOP has so few seats up in 2018 it’s basically impossible for the Dems to gain seats in that chamber.” But very likely that they’ll lose a few.

Rush Limbaugh has often said that liberals are the most fun to watch when they’re out of power. Over the next four years, they should be hilarious.

That’s the other side of the bad news for the Dems, most of the Rust Belt states they lost this year have a senator up in 2018, so yeah there’s a really good chance they buck historical trends in that chamber just because of which Senate class is on rotation.
