UNT-University of North Texas was known as NTSU, North Texas State University. The NTSU radio station was KNTU. When they changed the name to UNT back in the 80s, the radio station for one day had the call letters of KUNT.

This reminds me of a Los Angeles FM radio station, K-LITE. They had billboards all over the place advertising the station. One day, while looking at one of the ubiquitous billboards, I got to wondering why they chose a five letter call sign when every other station in the US is either three letters or four letters.

Then I realized what would happen if they dropped the ‘E.’

My sister went to Susquehanna University. They had a rowing team, also known as a crew. So the university sold hats that said ScrewU. I had that hat in high school. It was definitely a favorite.
