By the time deputies swarmed the Gilroy motel, jail escapee Rogelio Chavez was a few steps ahead and back in the wind, leaving behind only images captured on surveillance footage.
Sunday evening, the 33-year-old Chavez was believed to be staying at the Days Inn on Leavesley Road near Highway 101. His distinctive tattoo bisecting his left eye unsurprisingly caught the notice of more than a few people.
“We got multiple individual tips that placed him in Gilroy” that evening, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Glennon said.
Chavez was not at the property when deputies arrived around 11 p.m. Sunday. Surveillance video footage later viewed by investigators confirmed that Chavez had been at the motel recently.
Three people who may have been staying with Chavez were taken into custody, but their possible connection to Chavez, a San Jose resident, was not revealed by authorities.

El Stupido with the eye tattoo is going to be easy to find while the other one may be able to hideout in the ‘hoods for a while.
I bet they are heading to Salinas. Or Watsonville.
