Saw Sarah Vaughn in ‘68 at a jazz concert on the naval base in Yokosuka; I think Dizzy Gillespie was there too, but I was only 14 and just beginning to listen to jazz.

Sarah can be really terrific at times, but sometimes she’s inconsistent. And as for my tastes, I gotta put this recording in the latter category.
Anyway, melody aside, it’s too bad she didn’t go to the trouble of mastering the Portuguese lyrics.
(With due respect to Gene Lees and/or Norman Gimbel, I normally prefer to hear words by Vinicius de Moraes.)
