The show on TV that reports on forensic investigations of airliner crashes documented fairly well that pilots trained in the old Soviet and the Russian systems sometimes get confused by western dials, gauges, and controls.

So, if you get on a foreign airline, you should salute the captain and first officer and say, "Vy znayete, kak letat' etot samolet?" If they answer in Russian, then, by all means, find another flight.
