Thousands of green cards have been mishandled over the past three years, according to a new Department of Homeland Security inspector general report.
Electronic system errors have caused at least 19,000 cards to be issued as duplicates or with incorrect information such as name, date of birth, photo and gender the report says.
But the head of U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS), which manages immigration benefits, said that several of the reports conclusions were overstated.
The USCIS director said that the agency did not issue green cards to any individuals who were not eligible to receive them and that the number of cards containing errors were only a tiny percentage of the total issued each year.

He added that for the cards to be misused, they would have to fall into the hands of someone with malicious intent and a physical resemblance to the cards intended recipient.
About 5' 6" hair black, eyes brown, skin olive.
Yeah, I mean how many of those guy could there be out there?
This is the caliber of the government bureaucrats earning top dollar in the government.
They need to make sure these individuals in charge do not get retirement benefits.
Why aren’t the people in the chain of command of issue held to account? Oh...I forgot...they are government “workers”.
Just give them three weeks to round them up or their jail term starts.
Make this Green Card junk and have Green Card holders come in for a new one
“”they would have to fall into the hands of someone with malicious intent””
And boy! - without INTENT, we’re not going to get excited - malicious or otherwise.
Again with the IG! Why can’t we just do away with all the IG’s? We’re tired of all of them. They’re not worth the salaries or benefits they receive to sit around and MONITOR what’s going on - like bank robberies or termite problems. Get rid of them all and save the $$$.
Will never forget obozo firing IG Gerald Walpin in Sacramento soon after coming into office in 2009. Very interesting reading and so early on with no democrat opposition to the firing. This guy did his job and got fired for it. The others just kowtow to the politicians and keep their jobs.

“”President Obama swept to office on the promise of a new kind of politics, but then how do you explain last week’s dismissal of federal Inspector General Gerald Walpin for the crime of trying to protect taxpayer dollars? This is a case that smells of political favoritism and Chicago rules.””
I had no idea about this - this is sad. I was curious about what he’s been doing since 2009. So sad to think one can reach that age, walk to/from his doctor’s office and then have that happen. That makes me sad!
“”Gerald Walpin, a former inspector general for the Corporation for National and Community Service whose 2009 firing by President Obama was harshly criticized by Republicans, died on Friday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Manhattan. He was 84.””
Some “errors” are intentional and I will bet a months pay the “error” containing green cards are being used illegally
Funny how that happens
Never let an erroneous. Green Card go to waste
they are worth at least $5 K each
...Electronic system errors....
&&&
Errors. Uh-huh, I’m sure. Green cards given in exchange for green money is more like it.
I’ll believe that when I see a pig fly.
Hmmm let me think

Looks like ABC doesn't know what USCIS stands for. Nothing to do with Customs. Hint: It has to do with Citizenship.
How about the new ICE administrator just change the color? From now on, from Jan 21, the color of the new immigration cards will be PINK! (or purple or fuchsia
or puce....) The GREEN cards will be invalid. If you have a legitimate green card, can easily trade it in for the new color. If not, you are then vetted and we’ll see what happens to your a$$!
But, it cannot verify whether or not those extra cards are being misused by illegals and seems to think that a "tiny percentage" of the annual issues is millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars...
It takes a lot more than that to get rid of Federal workers
