So far there have been 91 reported manatee deaths this year from boat strikes, and officials want boaters to slow down and keep an eye out.
The state says efforts to protect the watery beasts have helped: aerial counts by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission show numbers are up around the state.
But in Wakulla Springs State Park, counts by boat have shown a downturn in numbers there.

If they’re “watery” how are they injured by boats? Wouldn’t boat propellers simply pass through them?

Manatees are destroying grass flats all over the west coast. They are driving out small fish at the base of the food chain. Their population is becoming a menace to the well being of the bays, creeks and rivers.
And do be careful of distraught Democrats swimming to the brighter shores of third-world countries as a result of the election. Sea Cows.
I’m thinking that a manatee strike is another way a Freeper could see his weapons go to a watery grave.

I guess that explains why the liberals love them so much.
They not only eat the grass they dig up the roots and leave a bombed out cratered mess of the flats. The grasses cannot return because they have been uprooted and eaten. In its place manatee poop, which bears a striking resemblance to human poop, floats for days.
