Help with military rank/address

Posted on 11/07/2016 7:49:03 AM PST by chrisser

My company signed up for AdoptAUSSoldier's frontlines program. Trying to get a package together for the holidays.

TOPICS: Military/Veterans
KEYWORDS: apo
Received an address of a contact person for a unit. Not familiar with APOs.

There are several acronyms which I'm fairly certain are the rank of the contact person, but I'd like to be sure.

I don't want to post anything publicly for security reasons - especially since I don't know what it is I'd be posting. Would someone be willing to contact me through FReepmail and help decipher?

APO = Army Post Office
FPO = Fleet Post Office.

You know, it’s always baffled me... officers rank insignia; why are the lessor ranks (i.e., 2nd Lt., Maj.) gold, and the higher rank (1st Lt. Lt. Col.) silver?

Gold is more coveted. Has higher monetary value, doesn’t tarnish, and holds a higher place on the periodic table.

So what’s the deal?

Thank you for doing care packages. They mean so much to those who are deployed.
