Democrats need 5 seats for Senate control, and they may get them (Lib Rant Alert)

Now, political analysts say Democrats are clinging to their chance of gaining the five seats they need to reclaim the chamber after two years amid signs that Republican candidates from New Hampshire to Nevada are still paying a price for Trump’s many controversies.

Specialists who track Senate races say the latest news that the FBI is reviewing e-mails that may be related to Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server is having a marginal effect on races down the ballot — so far.

(hat tip John Podheretz) The most important political story back in 2008 was the election of hopey/changey Obama ....but his presidency delivered a neutron-bomb strike to his party. Obama and the political structure of America have been left standing — but nearly 1,000 Democratic officeholders have been defeated.

In the House of Representatives, three successive elections in 2010, 2012 and 2014 have seen 63 Democratic Congress members lose their seats. In 2009, Democrats held 60 Senate seats. Right now, they hold 46.

So out of 535 elected positions in the US Congress, Obama has overseen a 14 percent reduction in Democratic officeholding — and the loss of majorities in both chambers.

Nationally, the numbers are even more stark.

Democrats have lost 910 seats in state legislatures since 2009, while Republicans have gained 12 governor’s mansions. Overall, according to Louis Jacobson of Governing magazine, “Democratic losses in the Senate have so far reached 22 percent, 27 percent in the House, 36 percent in governorships and a stunning 59 percent in fully controlled state legislatures.”

Democrats hope a good showing on Tuesday will win back five Senate seats and maybe 15 House seats, but relative to their party’s losses since 2009, that’s like a bandage on an amputation.

Dems already effectively control the senate. McConnell and his merry band of Republican senators are weak and feckless.

Unfortunately the GOPe so abandoned their supporters that they lost credibility with the voters. They failed to oppose the gingerbread man on nothing in fact going along or supporting his agenda. The sole thing they did was not approving one appointment to the SC when the writing was on the wall i.e. Hitlery was not a winning candidate.

I won’t vote for Kirk even if it does put Harry Reid back in the big chair. Him or McConnell, what difference does it make?

signs that Republican candidates from New Hampshire to ...

I will not vote for Kelly Ayotte on Tuesday.

I hope she loses by one vote, and if she does, I will take out newspaper ads to explain why she lost, and the best way for President-elect Trump to deal with Senator Hassan.

Sometimes, politicians are just too stupid to be allowed to continue in office.

Harry Reid is retiring, so come January he will be gone no matters what happens in the Senate races.

One likely scenario I see playing out now is that the support for Hillary will collapse at the polls. Hillary is becoming kryptonite and any dem associated with her. She will affect races below the presidential race.

There maybe a noticeable number of dem voters that will not show up at the polls. That means they will not vote for any lower races such as senators, representatives, governors, etc. Republicans and Independents on the other hand, will show up at the polls and vote. Turnout will be the key. If this scenario plays out, don’t be surprised to see the GOP retain the senate.

I’d like the GOP to hold any margin in the Senate but I’m comforted by Pence casting the deciding votes on ties.

You could be correct....speaking to a buddy of mine in a very GOP area around Atl, he mentioned the lines at the pre voting day stations being hours long. Wow.

With there being little pre voting in Pa, all the recent negative info has been against hitlery so I would expect a dampened dem turnout especially with the ginerbread man not on the ballot. Best news is the AA turnout is down and more AAs are supporting Trump then has happened for any GOP candidate since 1980.

I would rather have Toomey than Shady Katie McGinty so I’ll likely vote for him.

May I remind Mitch, "0bama's Bitch" McConnell that we gave you control of the Senate in 2014 to STOP Hussein 0bama and you proceeded to rubber stamp everything he did. So why should we care if you lose "control"?
