While tipping your driver is not required, it is not against Uber policy for the driver to accept cash tips. Tips are not included in Lyft payments either, but you do have the option to include a tip with your Lyft payment both at the time of the ride and up to 72 hours after. Sep 21, 2016, CSM

I’ve used them many times and never tipped (unlike cabbies). That’s one of the attractions of these services. As you show, tipping is optional. I’m not sure how many users of these services actually do it, however.

In any event, I don’t know how the driver knows who is calling them, apart from geographic hints.
