My first job was at a Top Ten radio station in NYC. They played that song hundreds of times a day. Horrible!
It is a beautifully constructed song - Lennon was a pop music genius. He knew just where to bring in the drums, and then the strings.
But Lennon was no fool, and I suspect that if he were alive today he’d be singing a very different tune.
Okay, I’m coming out of the closet.........I love Mcarthur Park! I love the Richard Harris original, but the Donna Summer remake is great too. My brother got me the Richard Harris CD.
I feel so free now ; )
But I will say, John may have had a change of heart before he was killed.....
Working class hero? John Lennon ‘was closet conservative and fan of Reagan’

Free Bird -- Lynyrd Skynyrd -- insipid lyrically and utterly banal melodically
Old Time Rock 'n' Roll -- Bob Seeger -- three chords, no original thoughts
Ramblin' Man -- Allman Bros -- sophomoric poetry set to infantile music
Ninety percent of the Beatles crap -- seriously? I Wanna Hold Yer Hand? Hard Day's Night? My dachshund can write better music than that.
Any disco.
Any (c)rap
Flame away.
See #45.
If true, Yoko probably wouldn’t have liked that, hence, my theory that she may have been in on John’s murder. (I don’t have any proof, it’s just a hunch).
MacArthur Park tops out with Opacity.”
Absolutely. Horrible music AND lyrics. If we could get Yoko Ono to perform it we will have finally weaponised music.
I would say, any song by any “boy band”.
And anything song that is “Bro Country”.
No, search is not our friend. Once a thread gets past a hundred or so, time for another one.
If only I had a copy of Alice's Restaurant,I could have reached Miami
Wow, I bet you got sick of that song, plus others. I know the way radio stations put hit songs in heavy rotation, that the DJs and others who have to listen to it can get tired of it.
Heck, just speaking for myself, I have gotten tired of hearing some songs over and over, even if I like the songs.
I once played MacArthur Park and American Pie in the car one after the other. By the time it was all over,I had gone from Boston to New Jersey......

Try the drum solo from “In A Gadda Da Vida”...that’ll get you from Tulsa to Topeka.
Try Genesis’ “Supper’s Ready”.
YES!! YES!! YES!!
You can fly to the moon and back and the piano ending for Layla will still be playing.
