State House candidates scuffle at Beast Fest (an actual "family" event.)

BLDENBORO — The annual Beast Fest brought out the beast in two attendees Saturday and resulted in charges being filed between two N.C. House of Representative candidates.

According to witnesses, Republican District 46 candidate Brenden Jones and Democratic candidate Tim Benton were exchanging words Saturday afternoon at the main entrance to the festival near U.S. 242.

“Some flyers have evidently been circulating saying Mr. Benton was involved in (a white supremacy group), and he was accusing Mr. Jones of being responsible for the flyers,” said eyewitness Woody Hester. “Mr. Jones told him he wasn’t responsible for the flyers and there wasn’t anything he could do about it, and he suggested they continue the conversation across the street away from the crowd.

“Mr. Benton kept nudging him with his shoulder the whole time they were walking across, and then he just stepped back and little and coldcocked him,” he said. (an eyewitness told this account.)

This is an actual family event in a small NC town of Tabor City. The headline I received from the local Republican party said this: "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:Democrat House Candidate Assaulted Republican Candidate at Family Festival......The Democrat was apparently angry at recent NCGOP mailers comparing him to Hillary Clinton."

More Democratic party thuggery.

I have to add to my bucket list, “Send out mailers implying my Democrat representative is a secret racist and KKK member.”

What a wonderful month that would be!!

Yeah, but you really have to enjoy good old fashion politics. What would happen if every race was decided by who could beat up whom? 1800th century here we come (literally if hitlery wins).

Yes, in NC the old ways are still around......but I don’t like the fact that this Demonrat cold cocked the Republican candidate....and apparently the Republican didn’t fight back. He probably was wise not to fight back since the Dem would try to press charges even though he hit first. OH, that’s right, the Dem is trying to press charges anyway. Sigh.
