Oklahoma Girl Surprised by Military Dad at School

A 6th grader at Hammon Schools got a big surprise after her dad in the military showed up at her at school.

The heartwarming reunion was caught on cell phone video by Vickie Dodson.

The daughter was called onto the stage with her principal, Jeff Morton, and was asked who she knew in the military.

"My dad," said the student.

The little girl's father has been serving all over the Middle East in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.

She says her dad has been gone "a long, long time," and has not seen him since Christmas of last year.

The family has been expecting him to come home from deployment around Thanksgiving this year.

"Well, let me tell you something. We got a little surprise for you. All the way from Bahrain in the Middle East, it's your dad," said Morton.

That's when the dad emerges from the curtains behind her, completely surprising his daughter.

The two embrace in a big hug, and applause breaks out from the audience.

I just love these reunions!

i love it that her daddy managed to come home. i have four cousins. Their daddy ~my late Mother's twin brother~ didn't make it home in 1966. They were not very old, but two of them were pretty messed up because they remember daddy. One of those cousins was born during the same week that his daddy died in Vietnam.

This war has gone on longer than either WWII or Vietnam with a military that is a fraction of the size of what it was during those two conflicts. We need to bring our guys home for good, and let the natives kill each other over those "oil-rich-but-otherwise-useless" pieces of sand.

Fully agree. We should close our bases in Germany and other countries that have become docile after WWII calmed their frisky militaries down. We need soldiers on the border with Mexico more than we do in some overseas countries.

Don’t really need them on the border, except for small, platoon-sized units to intercept groups identified by drones. The drones can cover a lot more ground and keep the guys on the ground alert as to where the bad guys are located, and what if any combat power they have to deal with.

HOWEVER: Those shut down military bases in Europe and a few in the US could sure be used to keep migrant populations IN, and away from the general public. We did stuff like that against US citizens of Japanese ancestry during WWII...and i believe that it was ruled constitutional...have to check that.

Against migrants —that is to say ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who are NOT US citizens and have already committed a crime by being here, should be no problem as long as due process is defined and followed in those particular cases.

With migrants it is very simple:

Since they are not citizens, they do NOT have the right to be among the general public. It would in fact basically enable the public to relax and not get raped and murdered and robbed.
