A New Mexico motorist was arrested early Monday after cops say he drove around a barricade and smashed into an EMS helicopter while under the influence of alcohol.
The McKinley County Sheriff's Office said the helicopter and an ambulance were responding to a man injured in an unrelated accident on Highway 566 near the town of Gallup.
Two fire vehicles were used to block the scene from traffic when authorities say a car driven by Glenn Livingston plowed through the roadblock, first striking the helicopter, which tipped over from the impact.
The helicopter had not yet taken off, and its engine was not running, at the time of the crash....
...Livingston's Jeep SUV then continued on to hit the ambulance before coming to a halt.

Sure.
If he has insurance I doubt his coverage limits will be even a drop in the bucket.
That’s the alleged perp and the damaged helicopter.
yes. good post.
I just don’t understand where he got that name.
Obama illegal ?
I hate when drunk drivers go airborne.
I wonder how many points that will cost.
If the guy has Farmers insurance (as though he has ANY insurance) maybe they can get a commercial out of this.
Well, ya drink too much, what else is there to crash into? Maybe a helicopter? Hell, yeah! VROOOOM!
Phony ID?
Stolen social security number?
His parents?
Average cost for an helicopter of that class is probably around $8 million. Can air ambulance companies get “uninsured motorist” coverage for them? Doubt it.
Excellent
Talking well into 6 figures damage, on a good day.
Local news showed the helicopter outside its hanger covered in a tarp - they expect it to be a total loss with a replacement cost of the chopper and emergency equipment inside several million dollars.
He has a criminal record - domestic battery. Now DWI, open container plus whatever else they come up with. The injured passenger had not yet been loaded into the chopper.
This is a “If you don’t like my driving stay off the sidewalk” moment. Well at least he was able to steer around the barricade while drunk.
New Mexico, also home to the only police helicopter shot down in the USA. In Albuquerque a couple of years ago. Which in turn was a couple of years after an APD helo landed at Krispy Krème donuts late one night for a quick break.
New Mexico and civilized things don’t always work out...
Looks like a Eurocopter AS350
Starts at about 1.6/1.7 million
up to 3 - 3.5 million...
more for some really fancy versions
They are a sweet ship to fly!
I got to call my insurance company to see if I am covered for helicopter-car crashes... :-)
