The word liqueur comes from the Latin liquifacere which means to liquefy. A liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from a distilled spirit flavored with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers or nuts and bottled with added sugar or other sweeteners. Typically considerably sweet, liqueurs are usually not aged long. However, a resting period during their production allows the flavors to marry.
With the broad selection of spirits available in seasonal, fragrant and often curious flavors (vodkas and rums in particular) there is often confusion of liqueurs and liquors. In the United States and Canada, spirits are frequently called liquor. The most reliable rule of thumb to follow is that liqueurs are a sweeter, syrupy consistency, while liquors are not. Most of the liqueurs have a lower alcohol content than spirits. However, some do contain as much as 55% ABV.
In some parts of the United States, liqueurs may also be called cordials or schnapps.
Historically, liqueurs descend from herbal medicines prepared by monks in Italy as early as the 13th century. These often bitter herbs were steeped and sweetened with sugar to make them more palatable to the monks ailing patients. The curatives potency received a restful boost from its alcohol content as well.

Cheers!
Think I will start the celebration early! :^)
Okay, let’s get to the important part...WHERE do we find the deals today?
NOT in Kansas. WHOTF decided to have National Liquor Day on a Sunday. I seen NO advertising for this. Most will be caught flat footed.
The past 8 years have made every day this.
Christian brothers brandy + Folgers coffee= “Onward Christian Folgers”.

Here are some liqueur suggestions for anyone who cares (cocktails in parentheses):
-Cointreau (Sidecar)
-Gran Gala (Margarita)
-Kahlua (White Russian)
-Maraschino (Martinez)
-Crème de Cacao (Brandy Alexander)
And they are pretty simple to make. Such as Limoncello...
Grate the rind from four or five lemons. Add to a half liter of cheap vodka & allow to steep for up to a month, giving the bottle a light shake each day. When finished steeping, strain out the rind. Add 2 cups simply syrup (2 cups sugar to one cup water). A nice lemony liqueur all by itself or added to other drinks.
I have a full bottle of RUMCHATA ... a cross between rum and horchata. Any ideas for recipes?
My wife loves rumchata.
Pours it over ice, with milk to thin it out.
Will post my next best favorite, handcrafted in Austin TX...
Ah, just like me. But I like cream instead of milk!!!
LOL!
