The pilot, Feras M. Freitekh, came to the U.S. on a temporary student visa in 2012 for flight school. The legality of his immigration status is unclear. Federal Aviation Administration records indicate Freitekh was issued a private pilots license in May 2015, and verified his certification to fly a single-engine aircraft.

Correct, he's been here since 2012, just waiting for Trump to say "pussy" eleven years ago, got it.

They probably did know better. But they also knew that if they denied that Jordanian flight training, there would be discrimination lawsuits galore. And the federal government would probably pull their licence to operate, again for discrimination.

I suppose if the flight school chose to not accept this student they may have faced lawsuit? Or perhaps the owner just didn’t care much about who they accept in for lessons?
After 9-11, I would think flight schools would up ask more questions of applicants, ferret out any looking to learn flying for wrong reasons.
